Assange signs book deals worth over £1m

(FT) -- Julian Assange has signed book deals worth more than £1m in the US and UK, to allow the WikiLeaks founder to cover his legal fees and maintain the whistleblowing site.

He will be racing a disgruntled former colleague to release an autobiography telling his side of the WikiLeaks story. Both books are to be published by divisions of Random House next year.

anyways Griffiths, who turns 41 today, is said to be "very weak and frail". He is thought to have lost 3st in the past three weeks, and shed even more weight since he stopped drinking on Tuesday.

Griffiths is held in a Hannibal Lecter-style segregation cell with a reinforced Perspex door.

He is desperate to move back among the general prison population, but jail chiefs are refusing because he has already made FOUR failed suicide bids and they need to keep him under 24-hour watch.

The cell is virtually empty apart from his bed to prevent him hiding anything he could use to harm himself.

He recently swallowed four radio batteries to protest against his constant monitoring and prove it did not work. He refused medical attention and went on hunger strike.

Griffiths was jailed for the rest of his life after he admitted murdering prostitutes Suzanne Blamires, 36, Shelley Armitage, 31 and Susan Rushworth, 43. Leeds Crown Court heard he dismembered them at his flat in Bradford and ate some of their body parts.

New York, NY, December 10, 2010 - 2600 Magazine, a quarterly journal for the hacker community that has published since 1984, is speaking out against numerous media reports that hackers are responsible for a spate of attacks on numerous e-commerce corporations as part of the ongoing Wikileaks controversy.

Denial of service attacks against PayPal, Amazon, Visa, Mastercard, and other corporations and entities have been underway for the last few days, as widely reported in the mainstream media. Each of these targets had previously taken some sort of action against the whistleblower website wikileaks.org and its affiliates. The media reports almost invariably refer to "hackers" as being behind these actions. While there is great sympathy in the hacker world for what Wikileaks is doing, this type of activity is no better than the strong-arm tactics we are fighting against.

A TWO-metre marijuana plant decorated as a Christmas tree was confiscated from the home of "an old hippie", who is now facing a drug possession charge, German police said yesterday.

In a tongue-in-cheek press release titled "All you need is love or how a hippie celebrates Christmas", police in the western city of Koblenz said they discovered the giant plant in the living room of the suspect.

"The two-metre-tall marijuana plant had been put in a Christmas tree stand and decorated with a string of lights," the police said.

"When asked, the hashish fan told the perplexed officers that he had intended to add more decorations to the 'tree' and place the presents under it, according to tradition."

Police seized the plant and another 150 grams of marijuana found in the apartment.
